T. Howard Foundation Will Honor BET’s Scott Mills, Accenture’s Julie Sweet at Annual Awards Dinner

The T. Howard Foundation will honor several industry leaders for their commitment to promoting inclusion at its annual Diversity Awards Dinner on April 10 in New York.

The diversity organization, under the event theme “We’re Paying it Forward Together,” will present its Executive Leadership Award to BET Media Group president and CEO Scott Mills, and its Executive Trailblazer Award to Accenture chairman and CEO Julie Sweet, T. Howard said.

Carlsen Resources founder and CEO Ann Carlsen will receive the foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award, while Cablefax editorial director Amy Maclean will receive the organization’s Diversity Advocate Award.

The fundraising event, hosted by CBS Saturday Morning co-host Michelle Miller, will also present Special Alumni Recognition awards to ABC News producer Jonathan McDougle (Rising Star) and Essence VP of communications Alexandra Ebanks (Career Influencer).

NAMIC Names Six National Board Directors

The National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) has named six industry executives to its board of directors.

The six new board members, who will serve three-year terms, include Ann Carlsen, founder and chief executive officer, Carlsen Resources, Inc.; Jerold Lambert, group vice president, Legal Affairs, Mediacom Communications Corp.; Bill Lee, vice president, Sales Professional Services, ARRIS; Joiava Philpott, vice president, Regulatory Affairs, Cox; Pragash Pillai, executive vice president, Operations, Optimum Region, Altice USA; and Dane Snowden, chief of staff, NCTA.

“As NAMIC works to advance diversity and inclusion in this era of shifting business models and consolidation, we welcome these outstanding new board members,” said Michelle L. Rice, chair, NAMIC National Board of Directors and executive vice president, Content Distribution & Marketing, TV One. “Their leadership and expertise in strategic business management will be invaluable as we move NAMIC's mission forward."

Terri Thompson Named EVP At Carlsen Resources

Carlsen Resources Inc. said industry veteran Terri Thompson has been promoted to executive vice president of search management and strategy.

“Terri’s strategic sense, business acumen, discipline and leadership provide our clients invaluable expertise at a critical point in time when a strategic hire is being considered and there is no room for failure,” Ann Carlsen, founder and president of the search firm, said in a release. “As Carlsen Resources celebrates our 25th anniversary, we continue to expand into new territory and Terri is critical in ensuring the company’s continued success. Her vision, experience and innovative thinking will continue to enhance the level of our service and her passion guarantees we will deliver truly impactful results.”

Thompson’s career includes 16 years with Cox Communications and 10 years with Carlsen. At Cox her responsibilities ranged from managing corporate marketing and sales, product development teams to the direct broadcast satellite divisions.

Committed to the development of women’s business skills and leadership abilities, Thompson served as national president and head of Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT). She has been recognized by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as one of the city’s Top 10 Business Women, and by the Atlanta Chapter of WICT as Woman of the Year.
