TBS has renewed American Dad! for seasons 18 and 19. Season 17 of the animated show premieres January 24. 

Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman created the show, which launched on Fox and moved to TBS in 2014.

“American Dad! is reaching rarified air with 18th and 19th season pickups that only a handful of shows have ever accomplished; this speaks to the zeitgeisty humor that resonates with audiences, and to the dedication of its creators and brilliant TBS network executives,” said Adrienne O’Riain and Sam Linsky, co-heads of scripted programming, TBS, TNT and truTV. 

Weitzman and executive producer Brian Boyle have inked new deals with 20th Television Animation to continue showrunning and executive producing the additional seasons. 

American Dad! centers on patriotic CIA agent Stan Smith (voiced by MacFarlane) and the misadventures of his family in Langley Falls, Virginia. Stan applies the same drastic measures used in his job to his home life, where Stan's blissfully unaware wife, Francine (Wendy Schaal), has an unfaltering loyalty that makes her blind to his arrogance. His left-wing daughter Hayley (Rachael MacFarlane), however, knows just how to push her father's buttons. Hayley's brother is the geeky Steve (Scott Grimes), who spends his time playing video games and obsessing about sex.

TBS has renewed its animated comedy series American Dad! for two more seasons, the network announced during its Television Critics Association press tour event.

We look forward to continuing the momentum by giving devoted fans two more seasons of the Smith family.”

The series, which is reaching an audience of nearly 18 million viewers across all TBS platforms during its current season, will reach its 300th episode this year. The Seth MacFarlane-created series is produced by 20th Century Fox.

The American Dad! season premiere Monday night drew 2.5 million viewers (live plus same day) across two airings on TBS and Adult Swim, Turner Broadcasting said. The Time Warner-owned programmers last year ordered a new 15-episode season of the Seth MacFarlane-created animated comedy after it ran 10 seasons on Fox.

TBS's 9 p.m. premiere telecast drew 1.1 million viewers in Live + Same Day, with 851,000 adults 18-49 and 630,000 adults 18-34, Turner said in a release. The Adult Swim encore at 10 p.m. delivered 1.4 million viewers (L+SD), including 798,000 adults 18-49 and 530,000 adults 18-34. After this, American Dad! episodes will premiere on TBS each Monday night at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), with encores on Adult Swim the following Monday night at 10 p.m. (ET/PT).

Turner said the cumulative audience made the show basic cable's most-watched entertainment program for the night, and said the show's 1.6 million adults 18-49 and 1.2 million adults 18-34 gave it the best performance among basic-cable entertainment shows in those demos.

Turner had previewed the episode on Web outlets Sunday.

TBS said it will make the first episode of the upcoming all-new season of American Dad! available for viewing on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube a week ahead of the show's launch on in its new TV home.

The first episode will be available for streaming via Facebook (www.facebook.com/AmericanDad), Twitter (twitter.com/americandadtbs) and YouTube (www.youtube.com/user/TBS) starting Sunday night, Oct. 12, at midnight (ET). The episodes will remain available for 48 hours, until Tuesday night, Oct. 14, at midnight (ET).

Time Warner-owned TBS ordered a 15-episode season of the animated comedy in 2013, after it ran for 10 seasons on Fox.

"It's also a great way to build up the excitement for the show in its new home on TBS.”

TBS and sister network Adult Swim will launch the new season of American Dad! on Monday, Oct. 20. The premiere will air on TBS at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) and on Adult Swim at 10 p.m. (ET/PT). In later weeks, new episodes of American Dad! will premiere on TBS each Monday night at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), with encores on Adult Swim the following Monday night at 10 p.m. (ET/PT).
