He holds a B.A. from the University of Dallas.</p><p>Of recent note, Alticast is <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/alticast-middle-videotron-s-4k-service-403548" data-original-url="https://www.multichannel.com/news/alticast-middle-videotron-s-4k-service-403548">supplying middleware and user interface support for Videotron's new Ultra HD-capable box.</a></p><p>“Our success with Videotron, our APAC customers and other operators in North America and worldwide have generated numerous new business and technology opportunities,” said Mansoo Han, CEO of Alticast, in a statement. “The appointment of Mike Fallon will better enable us to leverage his strategic and leadership skills, while freeing John Carlucci to accelerate the technology solutions that the market is demanding.”</p>

The Samsung-made DVR, with multi-room capabilities, can record eight shows at once.                                 <figure class="van-image-figure pull-" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="qc75c3AYdh8W5LGAqM5PjG" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qc75c3AYdh8W5LGAqM5PjG.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qc75c3AYdh8W5LGAqM5PjG.jpg" align="" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pull-"></p></div></div></figure><p>John Carlucci has been appointed to the newly created post of president of Alticast North America, and will retain his duties as the company’s chief technology officer, the company confirmed to <em>Multichannel News</em>.</p><p>Carlucci, an engineer who is late of Clearleap, Time Warner Cable and a cable-backed downloadable video security J.V. called PolyCipher, <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/alticast-reels-carlucci-cto-326748" data-original-url="https://www.multichannel.com/news/alticast-reels-carlucci-cto-326748">joined Alticast</a>, a video software and integration specialist, in 2012.</p><p>As CTO, Carlucci, who has more than 20 patents to his name, has been heading the development of  Alticast’s product development.</p><p>Of recent note, Alticast used the recent International CES to demonstrate AltiProtect, billing the cloud-based, renewable approach to media security as an alternative to the CableCARD. Such a solutions could play a role in the U.S. market as the CableCARD regime for separable security in set-top boxes prepares to sunset following the recent passage of the satellite reauthorization bill. The FCC is now tasked with pursuing a successor platform. Alticast has also been developing HDMI Media Express, a <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/alticast-set-top-stick-will-run-rdk-356675" data-original-url="https://www.multichannel.com/news/alticast-set-top-stick-will-run-rdk-356675">set-top-on-a-stick that uses the Reference Design Kit</a>, the preintegrated software bundle for IP and hybrid devices that’s being managed by Comcast, Time  Warner Cable and Liberty Global. In a demo last year, Alticast showed the device running both RDK and Android.</p><p>Alticast is based in South Korea, but operates its U.S. operations out of Broomfield, Colo.</p><p>At TWC, Carlucci was a key contributor to the development of services such as Start Over and the MSO’s switched digital video platform. </p><p><strong>Updated:</strong> Alticast announced promotion on Tuesday with this statement from Alticast CEO Won Cheol Kang: “John was the obvious choice when we decided to create the position of President. His experience, track record of success and outstanding technical expertise make him ideal to serve both as President and CTO and to drive Alticast to even greater achievements.” </p>

                                <figure class="van-image-figure pull-" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="jFmZMqsqdmPB9LdqPrpn9W" name="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/jFmZMqsqdmPB9LdqPrpn9W.jpg" mos="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/jFmZMqsqdmPB9LdqPrpn9W.jpg" align="" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pull-"></p></div></div></figure><p>Alticast said its engineering team developed “much of the critical software” for the <a href="http://www.videotron.com/residential/television/terminals-and-accessories/terminals/multi-room-hd-pvr-x8">X8</a>, a Cisco Systems-made multi-room DVR for Canada’s Videotron that is capable of recording eight programs at the same time.</p><p>The X8 is a next-gen box for Videotron’s “illico” digital interactive TV offering serving more than 1.7 million Videotron subs.</p><p>According to data about the device, the X8’s 2 terabyte drive can record up to 230 hours of HD video and, from a multi-room standpoint, is compatible with two Cisco models (the 4642HD and 8642 HD PVR), and two Samsung models (6340 HD and Samsung 8340 HD PVR).</p><p>“Keeping our illico service at the cutting-edge of entertainment delivery is a strategic imperative, so we turned to Alticast to leverage their expertise in the industry to help us bring our new X8 set-top box to market quickly,” said Marie-Ginette Lepage, VP, marketing-content and broadcasting, for Videotron, in a statement. “Offering our subscribers the very best multi-screen TV experience with continued innovation is our goal, and our new X8 set-top is one of the keys to ensuring that we meet this goal.”</p><p>“This project not only demonstrates Videotron’s commitment to its subscribers, it demonstrates the capabilities of our engineers and their ability to solve operators’ most demanding software development needs,” added Alticast CTO John Carlucci.</p>

Before that, he was an exec with set-top maker ADB Americas and at Vidiom Systems. He is also late of Samsung Electronic Product Innovation Lab, where he helped to introduce the company’s HDTV, MP-3 and cable industry products, and of Sharp Laboratories of America.</p><p>“Michael brings a wealth of experience in the cable, satellite, and broadcast fields,” said Scott Falconer, Visible World's COO, in a statement. “His background provides him with a unique perspective on the needs of the industry.”</p><p>“Visible World is perfectly situated to lead the growth in programmatic and Smart TV and I look forward to helping bring their solutions to the market,” Malcy added.</p>

                                <p>Bill Helms, a former engineering exec with Time Warner Cable, has been named chief architect and senior vice president of technology at Alticast, a maker of set-top software and middleware and a provider of tech integration services.</p><p>At Alticast, Helms will play a key role in developing new products and apps for interactive, multiscreen, and TV Everywhere services. He reports to Alticast CTO John Carlucci, another former TWC exec who joined Alticast in 2012.</p><p>As vice president of subscriber engineering and technology at TWC, Helms was responsible for leading the specification and development efforts of architecture, applications and services for the company’s video product line as well as overseeing the entire development process of the equipment used by TWC subscribers for video, data and telephony. He also led the internal engineering teams responsible for the launch and integration of the TWC navigation application into over 10 million set-tops and was also the lead technical representative on the Downloadable Conditional Access System (DCAS) joint efforts with Comcast and Cox Communications, Alticast said.</p><p>Prior to TWC, Helms held tech slots at Scientific-Atlanta (now part of Cisco), Harmonic and DiviCom (Harmonic bought the DiviCom unit of C-Cube Microsytems in 1999).</p><p>“Over his 20-plus year career, Bill has earned a well-deserved reputation in the industry as a leader who can innovate and solve problems across the video service provider and supplier community,” Carlucci said, in a statement. “Bill’s technical and business expertise, especially when it comes to understanding complex consumer, technology and operator trends, makes him an excellent addition to the Alticast team where we continue to pioneer industry-leading solutions.”</p>
