History has cancelled the SEAL Team drama Six, which is in its 10-episode second season. The cancellation was reported in several outlets and confirmed on social media: History's official Twitter page for the show retweeted one such announcement by lead actor Barry Sloane.

The season (and series) finale is slated for July 25. 

The A+E Studios produced series initially starred Walton Goggins as leader of a Navy SEALS team. The show also depicted the team members' home lives and drew plaudits from veterans' groups for its realism. The second season viewing audience, though, has been down about half from its debut season, Varietyreported.

Lifetime has given a straight to series orders to a new Jenji Kohan-produced series American Princess, the network announced Thursday.

The 10-episode series follows a socialite who runs off to join a Renaissance Faire after her wedding goes awry, according to Lifetime.

American Princess is created, written and executive produced by Jamie Denbo (Ronna & Beverly), with Kohan (Orange is the New Black, Weeds, GLOW), and Tara Herrmann (Orange is the New Black, GLOW) also serving as executive producers.

The series is produced by A+E Studios in association with IM Global Television.

“Jenji has always taken interesting and unconventional worlds and given them heart and humor,” said Liz Gateley, executive vice president and Head of Programming for Lifetime in a statement. “From the get-go, American Princess was a concept we loved as it’s incredibly relatable to want to parachute from one’s life in difficult times. In Jenji, Jamie and Tara’s hands, we know this will be hilarious and special."

History will team with Vikings actorTravis Fimmel to create an anthology series featuring some of the most infamous anti-heroes throughout history.

The untitled scripted project, developed by Fimmel, will launch with a focus on 19th century outlaw Wyatt Earp, according to History. A+E Studios will produce the series in association with Atlas Entertainment and Imperative Entertainment.

“Travis is a remarkable actor and we’re honored to continue our relationship with him after his recent magnetic performance on Vikings,” said Arturo Interian, Senior Vice President, Scripted Programming, History in a statement. “Just as Travis brought a completely fresh and unexpected approach to his character Ragnar Lothbrok, this would be an unconventional portrayal of Earp like you’ve never seen. We intend to capture the violent spirit of the great Sergio Leone films through telling the true story of criminal turned lawman.”

Veteran A+E Studios executive Bob DeBitetto will leave the company at the end of the year, A+E Networks president and CEO Nancy Dubuc said Monday.

DeBitetto, who was named head of A+E Studios in 2013 after leading A&E Networks as its president and CEO over a decade prior, will leave at the end of the year, Dubuc said in an internal memo.

Under DeBitetto, A+E Studios produced such shows as Lifetime’s scripted series UnReal and History’s Emmy-nominated limited series Roots.

Dubuc said she will name a new head of A+E Studios, but did not give a timetable.

Over the last 14 years, Bob DeBitetto has been a vital force in our company. As President of A&E, he led the network to an impressive 10 year ratings growth streak and he had a hand in creating some of our biggest franchises. Nearly three years ago, when I took over as CEO I asked Bob to create and lead A+E Studios so we would participate in owning our scripted content. In a few short years, the Studio created our most critically-acclaimed series ever, UnReal, and the Emmy-nominated Roots. The studio now has over 40 series in active development including History’s upcoming series Six and Knightfall. It has become a major force in Hollywood and he has played a key role in its success. 

Bob has been a friend, partner and mentor to me over the course of his entire career at A&E. He is widely respected in our industry and is often referred to as  "the smartest guy in the room." So it is with great sadness that I am announcing his departure from A+E Networks. This summer,  Bob told me he had decided to pursue the next chapter in his storied career and I want to be the first to wish him the very best. 

Bob will be here until the end of the year and I expect to make an announcement shortly about the new leader of A+E Studios.

A+E Studios has signed a three-year, first-look development agreement with producer Carlton Cuse, the network announced Friday.

Cuse will work with A+E Studios to develop quality original drama programming for the A+E portfolio of networks, including A&E, Lifetime and History. The prolific producer has worked on numerous shows including A&E’s Bates Motel as well as upcoming series The Returned. He’s also produced FX’s The Strain and ABC’s Lost.

“Carlton is a consummate showman and one of the greatest creative minds working in television today,” said Barry Jossen, Executive Vice President of A+E Studios.  “Since the start of A+E Studios, it has been our intention to expand our collaboration with Carlton.  We know he is one of the few producers with the unique combination of creativity and skills to personally create, as well as nurture other writers.  Now, we can continue on our path with Carlton toward producing many successful and brand-defining series together.”
