ESPN and Fox Sports battled to a tie for the top spot among Sports Emmy Awards winners, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Tuesday evening during a virtual awards ceremony.

ESPN and Fox tied with seven Sports Emmy Awards, while CBS and HBO tied for third with five awards each, said NATAS.

Fox’s live coverage of Super Bowl LIV drew the most Sports Emmy Award wins with four, followed by HBO’s documentary series 24/7 with three wins.

“The global pandemic has created unparalleled challenges in bringing a ‘live’ awards show program to the sports community,” said Adam Sharp, president & CEO, NATAS in a statement. “With two hosts, seven presenters, and more than one hundred and thirty-five acceptors coming from either a studio or their homes across the country, the sheer size and demand for new and exciting ways to recognize the great talents creating sports television has been an enormous enterprise that the National Academy has happily embraced.”

HBO will take its 24/7 sports documentary franchise to the football field in October when it debuts 24/7 College Football, the network announced Wednesday.

The series, which debuts Oct. 2, chronicles college football teams Florida, Penn State, Arizona State and Washington State in-season as they meet the demands and challenges leading up to and through game day, according to HBO.

The series, narrated by actor Liev Schreiber, will run over four weeks, with each week exclusively focusing on one of the teams.

“For many years, we have been enamored with the storylines and unrivaled traditions of college football, and we’re excited for the opportunity to expand the 24/7 franchise into the realm of college sports,” said Rick Bernstein, executive producer for HBO Sports in a statement. “Viewers will feel the tremendous electricity of some of the best atmospheres in the country, and see the meticulous preparation and challenges facing these programs in the build-up to game day and during the game action. We are excited for the challenge of delivering a four-part series of four different college programs over a four-week period with the production values and storytelling associated with our 24/7 franchise.”

Heading up the production team for HBO Sports is vice president & senior producer Bentley Weiner, who has overseen the boxing, hockey, golf, and NASCAR installments of the 24/7 franchise, who said that the college football angle represents an "exciting new chapter for 24/7."

HBO will air a one-episode edition of it’s `24/7’ sports documentary series surrounding the Nov. 8 Bernard Hopkins-Sergey Kovalev fight, said network officials.

The 30-minute special will debut Oct. 18 and will preview the upcoming fight between the veteran IBF and WBA light heavyweight champion Hopkins and WBC light heavyweight champ Kovalev, which will air live on HBO Nov. 8.

The '24/7' special will premiere on HBO immediately following the network's live World Championship Boxing event from Carson, CA. 

Boxing will again be the focus of HBO's 24/7 behind-the-scenes reality series, which profiles athletes as they prepare for a significant event. 

 This rendition of the series will cover Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez as they prepare for the middleweight title fight on June 7 in New York’s Madison Square Garden. 

The series is scheduled to debut on Saturday, May 31 from 11:15-11:45 p.m. ET/PT. The second episode will air Thursday, June 5 from 8:30 - 9:00 p.m., with the fight to follow two days later. 

“Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez are barreling toward the most-anticipated fight of 2014, and their backstories will make for great storytelling in this all-new edition of 24/7. This is an intense showdown made even larger by the backdrop of New York and Madison Square Garden playing host to the event,” said Rick Bernstein, executive producer, HBO Sports. 

The series will also be presented in Spanish on HBO Latino. Cotto hails from Caguas, Puerto Rico, and Sergio Martinez is from Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Cotto has appeared in three previous 24/7 installments.
